The Leafs’ power-play was excellent as they won the second half a back-to-back in Florida.

The Leafs didn’t score a goal at 5-on-5, but a Nazem Kadri hat trick powered them to a three-goal victory.

The two teams were level in overall Corsi and chances, but a look at the even-strength numbers tells a different story. Florida finished well ahead in all categories, and dominated in controlled entries. Part of that was down to a strong push once they fell behind midway through the second period.

Toronto had only six even strength chances the whole game, but most of them came in the third period as they were defending a lead. They limited Florida’s chances in that period as well, holding them to only four.

While Nazem Kadri scored a hat trick, he and his line were not on for a single even strength Leaf chance. The same was true for the fourth line, as Brad Boyes, Brooks Laich and Colin Greening had a quiet night. William Nylander’s line was the only one that managed to outchance the Panthers, with Zach Hyman and P.A. Parenteau finishing on top of the table.

Rinat Valiev and Frank Corrado got fairly easy minutes and zone starts, mostly avoiding the Jagr line, and were the only defencemen to finish above even in chances. Morgan Rielly and Martin Marincin struggled to limit chances, but were at least able to generate controlled entries, while Jake Gardiner and Connor Carrick ended up at the bottom of the table in all areas.
